Volume 1

September 1990.

Volume 1 opens from a distinctly period setting, but its editorial premise still has force: ideas evolve, and cultural evolution can be studied with the same seriousness as biological evolution. The issue brings together work on memetic science, cultural transmission, biological evolution, consciousness, information theory, and the origins of belief systems. Read today, it remains a compact record of an early effort to join biology, cognition, and the study of ideas under one roof.
